Blackpool Holidays For Disabled People

Think ballroom dancing, illuminations and endless amusement arcades, yes it can only be Blackpool. This popular seaside town in the northwest attracts over ten million visitors a year, but it’s hardly the Rivera now is it, so what’s so appealing about Blackpool? Apart from being host to some of Britain’s most famous attractions, Blackpool is representative of a good old-fashioned British holiday resort and because it’s pretty accessible, Blackpool holidays for disabled people are on the increase.
Blackpool may not be everyone’s cup of tea and whilst you can’t guarantee sunshine and blue skies, one thing is for certain, you will not be left wanting for entertainment. You will find a good choice of accessible Blackpool hotels and B&B’s catering for disabled people and thanks to the town’s commendable accessibility policies; most attractions are suitable for disabled visitors. So, if it’s a fun filled accessible UK break your after, Blackpool holidays for disabled people have a lot to offer!
Blackpool Tower
Standing over 518 feet high, this famous Victorian monument is a ‘must see’. Wheelchair users can access the Tower from Bank Hey Street and visit all floors via the lifts. There is ramped access to the café/ tearoom and you will find wheelchair accessible toilets on all floors. Ten spaces in the circus are designated to wheelchair users and there’s great access to the Tower’s viewing platform – so be brave, test your nerves on the ‘walk of faith’ glass platform!
Blackpool Pleasure Beach
Blackpool holidays for disabled people have to include a visit to this legendary amusement park which is filled with arcades, fairground rides, casinos, indoor entertainment shows and restaurants. Although every effort has been made to accommodate disabled people, due to health and safety, some of the theme park rides are restricted. There are six disabled toilet points and ramp access throughout the park, disabled parking and wheelchair hire is possible. Blackpool Illuminations
Why not take an accessible tour of Blackpool’s Illuminations. Whilst other UK seaside resorts shut down, Blackpool comes alive. This electric extravaganza is sure to light up any Blackpool holiday and takes place from the first week in September through to the first week in November, and it’s completely free!
Whilst in Blackpool you may also want to consider a visit to Blackpool’s Golden Mile, Blackpool Zoo and the Winter Gardens, all of which are very accessible to those with reduced mobility.
Have fun, fun, fun!
