Disability Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is an important aspect of arranging any holiday, it provides peace of mind and is an essential backup should things NOT go according to plan. Without it, you run the risk of being out of pocket should you unexpectedly have to cancel or require emergency medical treatment whilst abroad. The key is to purchase travel insurance with the right level of cover!

Here at Disability Holidays Guide, we understand that 'one size doesn't fit all' when it comes to insuring people with disabilities and pre-existing medical conditions, so we've teamed up with specialist travel insurer, Freedom Insurance, to offer a customer focused service that caters to the individual needs of our visitors.

About Disability Holidays Guide Travel Insurance
Arranging your disability holiday insurance couldn't be easier. At the end of the telephone is a friendly, professional, medically aware travel insurance adviser, whose priority is to ensure clients travel with adequate cover. A medical screening, quotation and policy fulfillment can be conducted in a single phone call without the need for doctors letters. The team are RNID Typetalk trained and welcome calls from people who are deaf, hard of hearing and have speech impediments.

Pre-existing Medical Travel Insurance Cover
Don't worry, just because you declare medical conditions does not mean you will be declined or necessarily charged extra. You will be pleased to learn all quotes are based on current health status and individual circumstance. One of Freedom's advisers will guide you through a brief medical screening, asking questions specific to the medical condition(s) you declare. This helps the adviser to arrange suitable cover, enabling you to make a claim should anything arise directly or indirectly relating to your pre-existing medical conditions or medication you may take.

Freedom's team are highly experience in covering conditions such as:
Epilepsy, Diabetes, COPD, Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus, Cystic Fibrosis, Thalassaemia, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, ME, Stroke, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Vasculitis, Heart Attack, Cardiomyopathy, Cancer and many, many more.

* Please be advised, Freedom cannot offer insurance to those under medical investigation, awaiting surgery or receiving in-patient treatment.

Cover for Disabilities
Living with a disability or being registered disabled does not affect your travel insurance or the price, unless you have any associated medical conditions to declare. What may be a concern is any mobility equipment you depend on, such as a wheelchair or a scooter. You can apply to cover your mobility equipment in the event of damage or loss up to a limit of £4,000. There is no extra charge for cover up to £1,000 but anything above will incur a small fee.

Carer Cover
For many people with disabilities and medical conditions, a holiday would not be possible without the assistance of a carer. If a holiday is dependent on a carer, it's worth applying for Carer Cover. Should a carer face a situation preventing travel, then both the carer and cared for may want to claim for cancellation. Also, should the carer become unwell or injured whilst on holiday, stopping them from providing support, the cared for will require assistance and possibly a replacement carer.

Cover For Seniors
For many, the later years in life are a time to fulfil long standing travel ambitions and enjoy the freedom that retirement brings. However, obtaining travel insurance as you get older can become difficult and more expensive. Many travel insurance providers withdraw cover at the age of 69. With Freedom, you can apply for travel insurance up to the age of 85 years for a single trip and 75 years for annual multi-trip. Some areas of the world can generate higher travel insurance premiums for seniors and it's worth calling Freedom for a quote before you book a holiday.
