Our Gites

Our holiday park consists of three wheelchair accessible Gites; L'Hibou, L'Herrison, Le Papillon and Le Faon.

L'Hibou 

4 bedroomed, wheelchair-adapted, centrally heated 

Internal facilities:-

•  Kitchen - fully wheelchair-adapted, well equipped with breakfast bar, cooker,
   fridgefreezer, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher & ironing facilities
•  Lounge - spacious with woodburner, DVD player, English & French satellite TV
•  Bathroom - with bath/shower and toilet
•  Bedroom 1 - fully wheelchair-adapted with 3 single beds and ensuite wetroom
•  bedroom 2 - with kingsize bed
•  bedroom 3 - with double bed and secret 'narnia' wardrobe door leading to:
•  bedroom 4 - secret 'narnia'-themed room with 1 single bed

External features:-

•  Private enclosed patio with table, chairs, parasol and barbecue

 Additional Services :-

•  All linen and indoor towels are provided (please provide own pool towels)
•  Cot and high chair available at no extra cost (please request at time of booking)
•  Childminding service - by arrangement

L'Herrison

3 bedroomed, wheelchair-adapted, centrally heated.

   fridgefreezer, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher & ironing facilities
•  Lounge - spacious with woodburner, DVD player, English & French satellite TV

•  Bedroom 1 - fully wheelchair-adapted twin room with adjacent wetroom
•  bedroom 2 - with double bed
•  bedroom 3 - with 2 single beds

•  Private enclosed patio with table, chairs, parasol and barbecue

Le Papillon

2 bedroomed, wheelchair-adapted, centrally heated gite

Le Faon

2 bedroomed gite

•  Bathroom - with bath/shower and toilet

How to get here:

By Air:-

Bergerac airport is 1 hr 10 mins drive, with Bordeaux and Poitiers airports around 1 hr 40mins drive – all serviced by low-cost airlines Ryanair, Easyjet,  Flybe and BMI Baby. Limoges & La Rochelle are approximately 2 hours drive.

Alternatively, fly to Paris, followed by the TGV fast train to Angouleme (2hrs 30 mins).

For Scottish visitors, Ryanair offer very cheap flights from Edinburgh to Poitiers and Bordeaux.  Flybe also fly from Edinburgh to Bergerac.

For Irish visitors, Ryanair offer cheap flights from Dublin to La Rochelle and Cork to La Rochelle and Bordeaux.  Aer Lingus also fly from Dublin to Bordeaux.

By Road:-

Channel ports Calais and Boulogne are within 8 hours drive. St Malo is approx 5 hrs 30 mins drive, with Cherbourg and Dieppe approx 6 and 7 hours away respectively.

Activities

You can choose to do as much or as little as you want while you are here with us. If you choose to get out and about, there are plenty of activities available to keep you busy. These include;

Tennis  

A free tennis court is within 10 minutes drive (free loan of our rackets and balls if required)

Horse-Riding

There are 5 riding stables within 30 minutes drive, catering for all abilities.           

Canoeing

Canoes can be hired at Riberac (20 mins) (wheel-chair accessible), Brantome (30 mins), Brossac (40 mins) and Aubeterre (30 mins)  - hire by the hour or for longer one-way trips.

Cycling

The surrounding country lanes have little traffic. Offroaders can enjoy the woodland, bridleways and footpaths. A selection of bikes are freely available for your use, including a tandem.

Archery & Shooting

A 20 minute drive takes you to a woodland setting where you can try your hand at both archery and shooting in an air rifle range, under the qualified guidance and supervision of owner Ralph.

Walking 

There are miles of footpaths in the local area. Guided walks can also be arranged.

Golf

There are 2 golf courses within 35 minutes drive.

Paragliding

Both adults and children can experience a tandem flight on the outskirts of Villebois (15 mins).

Go-karting

There is a ‘man-size’ karting track on the outskirts of Angouleme (30 mins).

Ten-pin bowling

There is a large bowling alley in Angouleme (30mins).

Watersports 

There is a base for sailing beside the large lake in Angouleme (30 mins).  Motor boats, fishing boats, canoes and pedalos can be hired in nearby Fleac.  There is a centre for jet-skiing (and quad-biking) within 30 minutes drive.

Fishing

Day permits can be bought for fishing in a variety of local lakes and rivers.

Painting

For budding artists we can provide a large easel for your use.  Enjoy sketching the buildings and grounds here and the natural beauty of the surrounding area.

Wine-tasting

Take the wine trails around Bordeaux or St Emilion.  Sample the local speciality ‘Pineau de Charente’ and a variety of cognacs at regional vineyards.

Fetes and markets

All local villages host fetes throughout the summer, with various stalls and usually a set meal on offer.  As well as the numerous daytime markets, there are several evening markets for the sale of local produce.

Family holiday with 2 special needs kids - lovely place, very quiet and relaxing.  Teresa and Sandy are very accommodating and friendly.  Enjoyed barbecues every night and eating al fresco.  Very nice area, found a lovely lido near Villebois and the children enjoyed it there (be warned, men must wear speedo-style trunks!).  Haven't spent more than €3 on a bottle of wine and not had a bad one! - Grafton & Curries families.

Thank you for the most amazing holiday ever, this was the first time I have left a holiday sobbing because we had enjoyed it so much. Everything was just great from the wonderful welcome to the sad goodbye!  The Gites & Swimming pool etc etc have been set up perfectly for the needs of physically disabled - it really was a home from home!!  You & Alan were the most amazing hosts ever we can't thank you enough for looking after us. We have had a wonderful holiday.  Completely relaxing and the girls have had a fantastic time with all the toys, soft play, sensory, pool etc etc!  We will definately recommend DdS to any family of a child with a disability.  It has been our first holiday abroad in 10 years and a huge success!
