The Red Barn is a large stone and brick barn and is one of a number of historic farm buildings, some of which date back to the 1500’s. It has a concrete parking area with space for 2-3 cars with level access to the building and to the outside decking with a shallow ramp down to a level lawned garden. There is complete accessibility throughout the spacious ground floor, which comprises the main living accommodation and three of the four bedrooms allowing excellent wheelchair access and manoeuvrability. The building is centrally heated throughout and fully insulated.

The Twin Master Bedroom

This bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, which has been built in the style of a ‘wet room'. It contains a shower, washbasin and toilet, all designed with the wheelchair user in mind. There are fitted hand rails and a great quality ‘Cascaid’ shower chair which is adjustable and can be wheeled over the lavatory or used as a commode. In the bedroom area there is one fully adjustable, electric, profiling remote-controlled Volker bed made with attractive wooden frames but still keeping the versatility of a hospital bed. This has a pressure mattress and retractable sides and adjustable platform height making it very convenient for carers. The other bed is a standard divan bed which can be fitted with either cot sides or grab handles as required. Within the room there is also a remote-controlled TV with DVD player, fitted double wardrobe, bedside cabinet and dressing table. The doors are widened into the bedroom and into the en-suite. French windows lead out of this room onto the terrace and garden with more beautiful, woodland views.

The Second Double Bedroom

In this bedroom there are two matching divan beds, one of which is electric profiling, with the option to attach either cot sides or grab handles if required. They can be used as either two single beds or put together to make one large super kingsize (6 foot wide) bed. There is a remote controlled TV, DVD player, fitted double wardrobe, bedside cabinet and dressing table. French windows also lead out of this bedroom, again onto the terrace and garden with the same beautiful woodland views.

The Third Bedroom

This bedroom contains one fully adjustable, profiling, electric Volker bed, the same as in the twin master bedroom, with optional retractable cot sides as required. There is also a TV, DVD player, fitted wardrobe, bedside cabinet and a window view onto the gardens.

The Fourth Bedroom

This bedroom/living area is on the gallery floor accessed by the stairs from the ground floor living area. This room is built with a galleried mezzanine floor. It can be used as either a playroom for the children, extra seating or an additional bedroom, perhaps for the carer. There is the option of one or two beds as required. These beds are standard (non-electric) single beds.

The Bathroom

This second shared bathroom on the ground floor has also been built in the style of a ‘wet room’ with a wheel-in shower, bath, wash basin and toilet, with a fold-down shower table over the bath The bath has been designed to allow hoist access if required.

The shared bathroom has a fold-down shower table over the bath.

From Newport, follow signs towards Sandown and Shanklin and take the A3056.

A mile out of Newport, in the village of Blackwater, you come to a junction with a turning off to the right towards Shanklin - the A3020. Take this turning.

A mile later, right at the crest of the hill, take a turning on your right down a farm track. The Red Barn is at the far end of this drive.

"We are so sorry to be leaving such a lovely place, and you have made us so welcome. It has been such a lovely place for my husband in his wheelchair with plenty of room for him to move around. We hope to come back soon" Len, Wendy, Joyce and Jack Harris

"Where else could you find a place that caters for children, wheelchairs so perfectly? We have had an absolutely lovely holiday and enjoyed ourselves so much, relaxing at the beautiful Red Barn and visiting the wonderful Isle of Wight. Thank you so much for all you have done for us – the extra things you did for us made it perfect. We will definitely be back" Helen, Kevin,Sylvia, Peter, Emma, Katie and Hannah

"Wow!” From the moment we found your accommodation on the internet to arrival, you have been the most amazing support in organising an extra special trip for Christmas to include my Dad with disability. Nothing has been too much trouble – a friendly smile and the warmest of welcomes greeted us. The Red Barn looked resplendent with amazing Christmas tree and decorations. The welcome pack was something to behold. Thank you!" Carolyne, Peter, Jacob, Ann, Terry, Jo and Joan.

We have just returned from our fourth trip to Sara & Neil's lovely property on the Isle of Wight. The fact that the weather was so good always helps, but being able to stay in such a well adapted property with such helpful lovely owners on site just tops it off. My wife who is wheelchair bound suffering from progressive MS loves Red Barn and the lovely welcome pack means that you don't have to do a shop before arrival. It's an escape home away from home. Highly recommended and we will be returning later in the year. Robert D

My husband (in wheelchair) and I have been twice to the Red Barn. Just a lovely place. Sarah Starsmore (owner) baked bread for us and we had fresh eggs from her chickens. There many animals.
Not really near any restaurants but self catering in the Barn is easy. Right in the middle of the Island and so near many attractions. (3mailes to Newport) but a Coop jst down the Road.
Disabled facilities excellent and anything we needed Sarah sorted us out. All on one level wheelchair easy. We love the Isle of Wight.
The Haywards

On first arriving at the Red Barn we were absolutely delighted so tranquil and pretty, down the winding road surrounded by farm land leads to a gate where the Red Barn resides, your warmly greeted by Sarah and her family who own the Red Barn and you all feel relaxed immediately, we then toured the barn and were amazed at the well thought out layout of the Barn for a disabled person in a wheelchair, our daughter is severly disabled and its not easy in finding holiday accommodation to suit all our families needs but the Red Barn was 100% 2 wet rooms, a bed that was fully adjustable with bed guards with ensuite bathroom, lovley kitchen with open plan lounge all easy access, outside lovely space all wheelchair friendly, also the odd donkey or two to say hello to !! We were also greeted by the smell of freshly baked bread and a basket of fresh eggs and wine and other bits and pieces to feast! We have had 3 stays at the Red Barn one of which was Christmas and Sarah & Family make the Red Barn look fantastic with all the decs & beautiful tree ! You can as we did book a hoist for your holiday duration and we ordered and had delivered all our food from Tesco when we arrived. Although Sarah and family are next door you hardly know they are there but there straight away if you need them ! There is only one problem I wish there was more Red Barns thank you so much Sarah !!
